Chemeketa’s Visual Communications Program continues to offer popular afternoon and evening classes in their graphics lab and in online classes. Register on line or by phone. You do not need to be a Visual Communications student to enroll in these classes, but some do have prerequisites and all fill very quickly. The classes in our lab are on Macintosh platform.

PHOTOSHOP I • VC130
OFFERED BOTH IN OUR MAC LAB AND ONLINE
This is an entry-level class for students with no previous experience in PhotoShop. It introduces the concepts and techniques of digital imaging and image manipulation. An advanced class will be offered spring term. Previous computer experience required. For the online section PC or Mac is acceptable and Photoshop CS2 or CS3 is required on your home computer.

OFFERED BOTH IN OUR MAC LAB AND ONLINE
Refines and expands the concepts and techniques of photo manipulation with an emphasis on electronic media. Work with channels, masking, transparency and other advanced techniques. Prerequisite: VC130 or consent of instructor. For the online section PC or Mac is acceptable and PhotoShop CS2 or CS3 is required on your home computer.

DIGITAL VIDEO 2 • VC266
Students will continue their work with digital video to produce their own personal films and commercial projects using Final Cut Express. Green screen and compositing video techniques.

ADVANCED DIGITAL ILLUSTRATION • ART240
Work with Nike designer and illustrator Carson Brown to explore advanced digital techniques and challenges in illustration. ART239 or consent of instructor required.

GENERAL PHOTOGRAPHY • ART261
Learn the basics of film photography from both an aesthetic and technical point of view. Includes photography using black and white film plus darkroom training focused on film developing and print making. An adjustable 35mm camera required. GENERAL PHOTOGRAPHY: DIGITAL • ART261D
Digital photography camera handling, editing, and printing of images for point and shoot camera users. Introduces important photographic themes and composition techniques for improved image making.

Get beyond point and shoot and study digital photography as a serious photographic medium. In depth coverage includes camera controls, exposure methods, color correction and composition. Previous computer experience is required. For additional information on course camera requirements visit:

INTERACTIVE MEDIA • VC241
Learn to create media projects using Flash as an authoring tool. Integration of images, video, text and interactivity are the focus. Students will create either a personal portfolio of work or an educational project.

Work with fresh from LA zany freelance illustrator Katherine Warner to learn the basics of digital illustration. Draw and scan original sketches, develop concepts and imagery, and explore digital techniques in a variety of exciting projects. Vector graphic software experience required. Flash combines animation, sound and interactivity into rich, dynamic applications. Flash projects may be used on the web, CD’s, mobile devices or as standalone movies. It introduces the concepts and techniques of working with drawing tools, creating symbols, keyframes and tweening, adding sound and adding interactivity. PC or Mac acceptable.
