About Visual Communications

Who We Are

The Visual Communications program at Chemeketa Community College offers a general degree in graphic arts with an emphasis in graphic design. Students may take additional coursework in web design, photography, video, animation, fine arts, illustration, and art history.

The program takes two full years to complete beginning in fall term. Many students spread their work over three or more years, which allows for more in-depth study and taking additional classes.

Degree Earned

Students graduate with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Visual Communications. This is considered a Career-Technical degree. Those students wishing to pursue a bachelor’s degree are advised to speak with a counselor or the program chair prior to enrollment, as additional coursework may be required.

Note: This is different than completing the requirements for the Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer Degree. We have block transfer agreements in place with several institutions for students who complete their AAS degree in Visual Communications at Chemeketa. This opens options for the transferability of career-technical credits that are usually not transferable beyond general education electives. Talk with us early if you think this may be a possibility, as you may enroll in some of these courses prior to enrollment in the program.
